On either a remote desktop (RDP) or VDI environment, a USB drive connected to the local PC can be used as if it were connected to a remote PC by using the USB redirection feature.
This article describes how to use SECUDRIVE USB Basic in this kind of environment.
This article utilizes the FabulaTech’s USB for Remote Desktop program which can be used in RD environment and will redirect the USB drive connected on the local PC to the remote PC.
USB for Remote Desktop consists of two programs: One is a server program and the other is a workstation program. First, install the workstation program on the local PC and then install the server program on the remote PC where the USB drive will be connected through RDP.
Plug in SECUDRIVE USB BASIC on the local PC and run the USB for Remote Desktop workstation program. You will see the SECUDRIVE USB device is displayed.
Select SECUDRIVE USB on the window and click the Redirect button.
After being connected to the PC through RDP, run the USB for Remote Desktop Server program and the SECUDRIVE USB which has been shared on the local PC will be displayed on the USB for Remote Desktop Server program.
Run My Computer on RDP and the USB drive which has been plugged into the local PC will be displayed just like it has been directly plugged into the remote PC.
Running the login program with administrator privileges
Run the login program of the SECUDIRVE USB. If you just click the login program, it won’t run and you need to execute the program with administrator privileges. When you use the USB which has been directly plugged into the local PC, you can run the login program without administrator privileges. However, if it is on either the RDP or VDI environment, you must use administrator privileges to use the USB drive.
After the login program of SECUDRIVE USB BASIC is executed, login with the password and you can access the secure zone.
Running the login program by using SECUDRIVE Assistant Service
It is inconvenient to run the login program whenever you use the USB drive. Also, if you use the ID without administrator privileges, you will need to enter another ID with administrator privileges every time you use the USB on the PC. By installing SECUDRIVE Assistant Service on the remote PC, you can run the login program of the SECUDRIVE USB without administrator privileges on a RDP environment.
